Large Sliding Door Order Checklist: Opening, Panels, Sill, and Delivery
Questions to settle before ordering a large sliding or lift-slide door, from panel layout and daily access to receiving and installation coordination.
Short answer
Before ordering a large sliding door, confirm the opening dimensions, fixed and moving panels, daily access, sill detail, screens, glass, hardware, and delivery plan. A rendering of the fully open door does not answer all of those questions.
Draw the door closed and open
Label each panel as fixed or moving and show its direction of travel. Record which handle is used for everyday access and where the panels sit when open. Check the resulting passage against the actual plan, including furniture, curtains, adjacent walls, and outdoor circulation.
For a corner or pocket arrangement, have the project team identify the structural and wall-space assumptions. A conventional slider, lift-slide system, and pocketing system should not be treated as equivalent simply because the overall opening width is similar.
Resolve the threshold as a construction detail
Record the chosen sill option and the finished floor levels on both sides. Ask the project team to coordinate weather exposure, drainage, flashing, and the surrounding surfaces with the selected manufacturer's installation information. Do not approve a flush appearance in a rendering while leaving the actual water-management detail unresolved.
Check what is included in the package
Ask whether screens, locks, handles, trim, and glazing are part of the quoted assembly or separate items. Confirm the interior and exterior finish choices, the glass direction, and any access needed for future service. Put exceptions in writing so the order matches the approved schedule.
