Four dimensions shape the opening.

A deeper profile is not automatically better, and a slimmer profile is not automatically weaker. The right choice depends on operation, panel size, glass, exposure, sill strategy, hardware, and the documentation required for the project.

Profile depth

The overall front-to-back frame dimension. Deeper profiles may support larger insulating zones, glazing pockets, tracks, reinforcement, or multi-panel movement.

Visible sightline

The aluminum seen around the glass or where panels meet. A narrower sightline increases the glass-to-frame ratio, but it does not by itself define performance.

Thermal break

An insulating barrier separating interior and exterior aluminum. Its design works with glass, spacers, seals, size, and installation to shape whole-unit performance.

Sill + track geometry

The bottom profile manages movement, drainage, weather seals, accessibility, and screen coordination. Low-profile and higher-weathering directions involve tradeoffs.
